Themba Orvall Maluleke is a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who has excelled in both his professional and academic careers. With over 14 years of experience in the built environment field, he has acquired a good understanding and an adaptable resolve when it comes to different work challenges. He has successfully produced project and maintenance plans, played a significant role in the maintenance of healthy and safe environments, and handled the creative solutions of various problems this industry has presented. He is motivated by finding solutions to the most challenging tasks and the ability to meet clients’ requirements at all times.
Themba believes that in order for his business to be successful, it is imperative he surround himself with colleagues who are experts in their field. In doing this, he ensures OCD can provide a streamlined service to clients that is always professional, targeted and results-orientated. He has appointed expert team members as members of staff in the fields of architecture, space planning, interior design, project management, property development, 3D animation and technology – all with individual skill-sets to deliver exceptional quality output time and again.
Themba believes that supervision and a great deal of time spent planning and scheduling each phase of any project is key to its success, and OCD maintains a constant line of communication with the client. I currently run a successful practice, doing mostly upmarket / estate housing, commercial, residential and educational facilities ranging from R1.6 million to R15 million.
April 2008 to 2014: TFMC (Total Facilities Management Company)
- After working for Prism Architects, I needed a different form of experience and environment and I joined TFMC as an Architectural Consultant, Skilled Technician and Junior Manager. I hold a Diploma in Project Management and have completed projects at TFMC, while playing a role as a Principal Agent and Project Manager.
- I am currently mentoring our departmental personnel in Revit Architecture and have introduced various design processes and ways of modeling, and assist them on daily with basics and fundamental principles. This has enhanced our company’s productivity and efficiency in managing drawings, and thus improved quality. Meanwhile, I continue to expand my knowledge and mentoring skills.
As an Architectural consultant at TFMC, I am expected to produce the following outputs:
- Providing quality, relevant and responsive architectural service to customers in an efficient manner.
- Provide feasibility reports, sketch plans, line drawings according to customers brief to meet Projects SLA (time and budget compliance).
- Provide coordinated detailed designs, finishing schedules, materials, etc. in line with the budget.
- Compile tender drawings and specification documentation.
- Ensure that designs comply with Telkom and National Building Standards.
- Compile working drawings including details that are necessary for construction.
- Provide effective management of construction workers or contractors (site instructions and inspections), issue as built drawings and archive project file.

January 2003 to December 2004: Marlowe Sheppen & Associates, Durban
- Marlowe Sheppen & Associates in Durban was a small firm of general architectural technicians and attorneys, where I was employed as a junior designer preparing drawings and sites visits for all legal liquor licensing buildings to be submitted.
February 2006 to May 2008: Prism Architects, Polokwane
- In February, 2006 I was appointed as an Architectural Technologist and in August 2006 was promoted to a Senior Architectural Technologist.
- I implemented different forms of designs; introduced new technology which took the company to a different level of 3D presentations, animations and quality of drawings. This helped the company to produce drawings more efficiently and faster. We managed to build and improve our client base. Based on performance and quality of work I brought into the company I was the first to be nominated to produce documentation and design in projects that were over R1.5 billion. These include the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and we undoubtedly produced a world class stadium and years to come.
- My main responsibilities were to produce documentation or construction drawings, site visits, client interactions, administration, correspondence, submissions of drawings to the council, planning and organising, project coordination and management, feasibility study, tender evaluations and verification of bill of quantities in conjunction with architectural drawings.
January 2005 to January 2006: Alistair Hume Architects, Durban
- I joined Alistair Hume Architects and I was quickly offered a partnership in the company. I had already established a practice of my own and we became partners. Together we managed to develop hundreds of hectors of land in residential units across KwaZulu-Natal and we completed successful projects over the duration of our partnership.
January 2004 to December 2005: EL Arch Architects, Polokwane
- E.L Arch Architects is a large firm based in Polokwane. My career at this point was starting to take form because of the motivation and desire to work my way to the top. I was handling projects from brief description to handover and doing documentation for health centres, sports grounds and educational facilities.

SACAP – South African Council for the Architectural Profession
The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) is the regulatory authority for the architectural profession, established under the Architectural Profession Act no 44 of 2000. Architectural professionals are required by law to be registered with SACAP, and once registered they are accountable to SACAP in terms of providing services to the public.

PIA – Pretoria Institute for Architecture
(SACAP), and is a ‘Regional Institute’ of the South African Institute of Architects. The PIA has its origins in the Pretoria Architectural Society which was founded in 1945. The PIA was created to serve the interests of architects in the Pretoria area, to further good Architecture and to care for the Architectural heritage unique to Pretoria.
Activities
The regional branches of SAFHE, with a membership totalling about 260, have programmes geared to local interests. Talks, seminars, discussions and workshops, on a variety of subjects take place regularly. SAFHE national conferences covering particular themes have been held at two yearly intervals since 1977, and have attracted delegates from Sub-Saharan Africa and abroad. The most recent of these popular events was held at Sun City in 2005, which were attended by more than 300 delegates, including representatives of all the provincial departments of health within South Africa.
Members of SAFHE have presented papers at congresses of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering at many venues abroad. Since its admission as an “A” member, SAFHE has participated in all IFHE Council meetings, and from 1990 has had a member on its Executive Committee. SAFHE hosted the 19th IFHE congresses in Cape Town, in May 2006 – a highly successful event attended by delegates from over 30 countries. The theme of the congress was “Healthcare engineering in developing countries” which elicited many papers of a high standard. As a consequence of its conference and congress activities, SAFHE is able to provide assistance to appropriate individuals to further their experience and training in the field of healthcare engineering.
